Shift Foundation respects and protects the privacy of people who use our website (the “Website”). This Privacy Notice explains when and why we collect personal information about you, how we use it, the conditions under which we may disclose it to others, this means any information that can directly or indirectly identify you. It also explains how we keep your data safe and secure and your rights and choices in relation to your information.

Who we are?
Shift Design is here to support social organisations by using a collective approach to tackling society’s social problems. We bring together rigorous research, bold creativity, strategic thinking and an open and collaborative mindset to design sustainable solutions to challenging social problems.
In this notice, Shift Design, ‘we’, ‘us’, and ‘our’ means:

What information does Shift Foundation collect?
Shift Foundation does not collect any unique information about you (such as your name, e-mail address etc), except when you specifically and knowingly provide such information. Shift Foundation collects data when you register to receive our email newsletter or via the completion of other sign up forms. In addition to the above, we collect information automatically about your visit to our website. Please see our Cookies Section for more details.
How do we use this personal information?
- When you sign up to receive Shift News, we use the email address provided to share with you: Newsletters – our regular Shift Foundation news bulletin
- Blogs and website articles produced by Shift Foundation on programme and industry related topics
- Event information – news of upcoming events that we feel would be of interest to you.
- Trade Articles – news/articles featuring Shift Foundation programme or products
- Social Media – When you interact with us on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, we may obtain information about you (for example, when you publicly tag us in an event photo). The information we receive will depend on the privacy preferences you have set on those types of platforms.
Is your information shared with third parties?
The information you provide when registering will not be shared with any other entity or organisation, without your explicit consent, aside from our service providers who operate elements of our service and process data on our behalf, and apart from your username, which will appear on blog entries and other submissions you make for inclusion on the website.
We will not use the information submitted through the registration process on the Website for any other purpose and we will not pass your contact details to any third party for the purpose of making any marketing communication to you without having first received your explicit consent.
Any external websites linked to from Shift Foundation’s website are developed by people over whom Shift Foundation exercises no control. These sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data or solicit personal information. We give no warranty or indemnity in relation to the content appearing on those websites or in relation to the administration of these websites.
How is your information held?
Your details are securely stored on our CRM System and email database. By providing personal details during registrationregistration, you are consenting to the use of those details for the purposes of identifying you as a unique user.
All data collected will be held within the European Union and the European Economic AreaUnited Kingdom and no transfer outside of the UK is needed in order to process your data. or other territory complying with the legal and technical guidelines laid down for handling data by the European Union and will only be used for the specific purpose for which it was sought and to which you consented. It will not be used for any other purpose whatsoever. Any personal data we hold on you will be deleted or updated upon request and any inaccurate or misleading data held will be changed or deleted upon your request.

As required by The Data Protection, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulation 2019 (UK GDPR). the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Shift Foundation follows strict security procedures in relation to the storage and disclosure of information which you have given to us, to prevent unauthorised access or use of such data. In the event, however, that Shift Foundation or its officers or employees are required to undertake any act under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act or similar legislation Shift Foundation or such person shall be entitled and occasionally obliged to do so without informing you. We would also ask that in such circumstances you co-operate with Shift Foundation.
How long is your information held by us?
Unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law, we will only hold your personal information on our systems for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Privacy NoticePolicy or until you request it is deleted.
We review our retention periods on a regular basis and update our Records of PRocessing Activities (RoPAs) accordingly.

Here at Shift Design, we respect and value your choices. You have a choice whether or not you wish to receive information from us. Right of Access

You may request for us to delete some or all of your information we hold about you. Subject to certain exceptions, we will do so as far as we are required to.

You have the right to object to processing where we are using your personal information such as where it is based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.

Inaccurate or incomplete information we hold about you can be corrected. The accuracy of your information is important to us and we are working on ways to make this easier for you to review and correct the information that we hold about you. We will also carry out an annual accuracy check and contact you to ensure your information is up to date. You have a right to restrict the processing of some or all of your personal information if there is a disagreement about its accuracy, or if we are not lawfully allowed to use it.
Right to Access your Information
You have a right to request access to a copy of your personal information that we hold about you, along with the information on what personal information we use, why we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep the information for and whenever it has been used for automated decision making. You can make a request for access free of charge and proof of identity is required.
No automated Decision Making
Automated decision-making takes place when an electronic system uses personal information to make a decision without human intervention. You have the right not to be subject to automated decisions that will create legal effects or create a similar significant impact on you, unless you have given us consent, it is necessary for a contract between you and us or is otherwise permitted by law. You also have certain rights to challenge decisions made about you. We do not currently carry out automated decision making.
Portability
You can ask us to provide you or a third party with some of the personal information that we hold about you in a structured. commonly used, electronic form so it can be easily transferred.

You have the right to unsubscribe from our database by selecting unsubscribe option at the bottom of any of our communications or by contacting dataprotection@shiftdesign.org.uk
Cookies
Shift Foundation does note and save information such as time of day, browser type and content requested when you visit our website. This information is used to provide more relevant services to users. We do this by placing a piece of code on each web page. This provides statistical site usage information relating solely to Internet usage behaviour.

Transferring your information outside of the United Kingdom
When data is transferred outside of the UK, appropriate safeguards are in place to ensure adequate levels of security are in place and are in line with data protection laws. We do not currently transfer data outside of the UK and you will be notified if and when Shift Design does.
